From the red carpet dresses to the overly emotive speeches, the Academy Awards are a glamorous spectacle to behold.

But not only do the nominees get to experience one of the most fabulous nights in show business, some also come away with a swag bag worth tens of thousands of pounds.

But what is in 2022’s Oscars gift bag? Here’s everything you need to know.

The Oscars gift bag is a yearly tradition in which the top acting and directing nominees – yes, even the people who don’t win – will get a bag of goodies to take home.

But this isn’t the same type of goodie bag you got at your friend’s 8th birthday party. These are seriously luxe. In fact, Forbes estimated that the 2021 bags valued around $205,000.

The custom began in 1989 with the Academy itself handing out bags that were considerably more modest.

But, over the years they got more and mroe elaborate, and in 2006 the American Inland Revenue Service stepped in, claiming they were a form of non-cash compensation. At this point the Academy stepped away, and third-parties took over.

Now, the bags are organised by Los Angeles-based marketing company Distinctive Assets.

Founder of Distinctive Assets Lash Fary has said in a statement about this year’s version: “While this gift bag does, as always, have an impressive value, that is neither our focus nor goal. A great gift has nothing to do with a price tag.

“This year’s nominee package is particularly meaningful as we pay tribute to a milestone anniversary and also celebrate the resilience of all involved after the challenges of the past two years.

“Despite perpetual bad news globally, it’s also an important form of self preservation and self-care to carve out a little room for the fun, festive, and fabulous.”

Forbes has said that this year’s bag is worth a whopping $140,000, and rather than paper bags, they are full on luggage bags full of swag.

The 2022 Academy Awards will award winners on Sunday 27 March.

The ceremony will run from 1am UK time (8pm ET) and continue until around 4 or 5am.

Sky has launched a temporary channel to broadcast the event live at 1am. Sky Cinema Oscars will broadcast it for British viewers, which is channel 302.

There will also be a highlights show at 7pm on Monday 28 March. The ceremony will also be broadcast live on Sky Showcase HD, which is channel 106.

The Sky Cinema Membership is £9.99 a month but NOW also often has deals.

Because last year’s ceremony was delayed by two months due to Covid-19, the eligibility window for entrants has had to be narrowed down slightly to 10 months rather than a full year.

In order to be eligible, a film must have been released between 1 March and 31 December 2021.
