ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, MI – Four men were injured Sunday morning during a shooting at an apartment complex near Grand Valley State University, police said.

None of the victims’ injuries are believed to be life-threatening, according to an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office news release. At least two of the victims attend Grand Valley State University.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, students or staff at this time, police said.

Police responded to a 2:20 a.m. report of a loud party on Sunday, Sept. 18, in the area of the Canvas Apartments in the 10200 block of 48th Avenue in Allendale Township.

Shortly after, dispatchers received reports of shots fired in the same area. As police arrived, they also heard additional gunshots.

Upon arrival, deputies and medical units found an individual with a gunshot wound and began providing medical treatment. Within minutes, additional deputies located a vehicle fleeing the area that was believed to be involved in the shooting and performed a traffic stop.

Several individuals were detained for questioning and evidence was seized. Police did not say what evidence was collected.

After communicating with area hospitals, police determined that three additional victims arrived for treatment from gunshot wounds that was believed to be related to the shooting.

Police remained on scene for several hours processing evidence and interviewing witnesses and victims. Three of those injured have been treated and released from area hospitals, police said. One victim remains hospitalized in “stable condition.”

The victims are between the ages of 18-20.

Several vehicles were also damaged after being struck by gunfire. The sheriff’s office has been working with Grand Valley Department of Public Safety to coordinate resources with the university.

No arrests have been made at this time and the case will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for review of criminal charges at the conclusion of the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
